James Shore: Successful Software
James Shore: Successful Software: "Ideas have a way of coalescing out of thin air in an organization. One day, nobody cares about an idea. The next, it seems like everyone's talking about it. I think ideas appear 'out of nowhere' because the soup has been heating up for a while. One moment, ugly soup. The next... the bubble of an idea."

Ian Landsman’s Weblog v2.0 - 10 Tips for Moving From Programmer to Entrepreneur
Ian Landsman’s Weblog v2.0 - 10 Tips for Moving From Programmer to Entrepreneur: "A big mistake people make here is implementing the feature set of the competition to get started. That’s a bad move. It’s like when you copy your friends homework. You both end up with the same mistakes. By talking to the customers you can avoid the mistakes your competition has already made. "

Osho XML book: "[The sannyasin answers: I feel that I've been trying but the effort doesn't really... ]
No, you are not trying. That may again be a game. You pretend that you are trying. Otherwise there is no problem, no problem at all. Once you understand that you don't want to play the game, finished. Tomorrow morning it can happen. Tomorrow morning come with the decision -- 'I am not going to play the games.' Just see what happens. "

Osho XML book: "For these fifteen days, the first thing in the morning, get up with a great enthusiasm, 'God within', with a decision that today you are going to really live with great delight -- and then start living with great delight: Have your breakfast, but eat it as if you are eating God Himself. It becomes a sacrament. Take your bath, but God is within you; you are giving a bath to God. Then your small bathroom becomes a temple and the water showering on you is a baptism.
So get up every morning with a great decision, a certainty, a clarity, a promise to yourself that today is going to be tremendously beautiful and you are going to live it tremendously. And each night when you go to bed, remember again how many beautiful things have happened today. Just the remembrance helps them to come back again tomorrow. Just remember and then fall asleep remembering those beautiful moments that happened today. Your dreams will be more beautiful. They will carry your enthusiasm, your duality, and you will start living in dreams also, with a new energy. "

Osho XML book: "Don't try to fight with the darkness. There is no way because the darkness does not exist. How can you fight with it? Just light a candle and the darkness is gone. So forget about the darkness, forget about the fear."

Osho XML book: "Joy is the antidote for all fear. Fear comes if you don't enjoy life. If you enjoy life, fear disappears. So just be positive and enjoy more, laugh more, dance more, sing. Remain more and more cheerful, enthusiastic about small things, very small things. Life consists of small things, but if you can bring the quality of cheerfulness to small things, the total is tremendous. "

James Shore: Successful Software
James Shore: Successful Software: "There Is No Change
It took me several years to realize this, but now I believe that the Way to Change is No-Change. No, this isn't some sort of pseudo-Zen mysticism. (Okay, I admit to dressing the phrase up in a zen outfit, just for fun.)
Seriously, though... I no longer approach my work from the standpoint of 'I'm here to Change Things.' Instead, I'm interested in showing people ideas, seeing what they think, talking about alternatives, listening to experiences, etc.
If it turns out that people don't think the ideas will work for them, that's fine. I'll be disappointed, yes. If I feel that people haven't given the ideas a fair chance, I'll push them to be more open-minded. If I've been hired to introduce the ideas, I'll talk with the folks that hired me about our alternatives. But I'm not going to try to force people to do something they don't agree with.
That attitude shows through in the way I approach my work, and I think it makes it easier for people to trust me.
Be Respectful
At all times, I strive to be respectful of both the people and the organization. I don't always succeed on the organizational side. I have a pretty low tolerance for bullshit and it seems that organizations always accumulate some amount of bullshit. My intolerence makes me seem unfriendly and critical, which makes it harder for people to trust me. (Hmm. I should probably work on that.)
On the positive side, though, I am absolutely respectful of people. 'Being respectful,' by the way, doesn't mean 'being friendly.' Sure, I'm friendly... to the best of my ability... but more importantly, I'm don't think of others as incompetent. I look at problems and think, 'There must be a reason things are the way they are.' I find out what people are good at and th"

Kill Your Darlings
Kill Your Darlings: "William Faulkner is said to have advised writers to kill their 'darlings,' those little bits of glitter a writer thinks are simply marvelous. To the reader lacking that maternal attitude, they are at best distracting, at worst a reason to stop reading. "
You Arent Gonna Need It
You Arent Gonna Need It: "Keep it simple. If you need it, you can put it in later. If you don't need it, you won't have to do the work at all. Take that day off. "
